Bio
Dr. Tiso joined the Chemistry Department of 小蓝视频 in September 2015.
A native of Italy, he earned his M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Padova, Italy in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Bioanalytical Chemistry with specialization in Molecular Medicine at the Cleveland State University, Ohio while performing his thesis project on nitric-oxide synthase enzymes at the Cleveland Clinic Learner Research Center. At CSU he was a teaching assistant of general and organic chemistry for several years. As a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD, Dr. Tiso acquired a broad experience in biochemistry research and since 2012 he taught continuously 鈥淏iochemistry in Health and Diseases鈥 and 鈥淚ntroduction to Molecular Medicine鈥 at the Foundation for Advanced Education in Sciences (FAES) Graduate School in Bethesda, MD.

In addition to the classic lecturing method, in his classes Dr. Tiso shares his passion and enthusiasm for the natural sciences and strives to use the problem-based learning methodology to engage students in solving real-world problems or answering a complex question. He values students鈥 individual backgrounds and experiences, encourages them to work together and learn from each other and stimulates students to teach back to the class using group exercises and class discussions.

Dr. Tiso research interests are the molecular pathways governing the link between dietary nitrate metabolism, the microbiome and human health, including the reactions of nitrate and nitrite with globin hemoproteins (such as hemoglobin, myoglobin and neuroglobin) to generate nitric oxide.
