In this workshop led by CTRL's AI in Teaching & Research Faculty Fellow Derrick Cogburn (Professor, KSB | Information Technology & Analytics /SIS | Environment, Development & Health) you will build your knowledge of artificial intelligence by exploring large language models, and the machine learning and deep learning techniques and technologies that drive them. We will then introduce you to the concept of the transformer which in 2017 led to the development of the Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPT) that fuel ChatGPT and similar GenAI tools. We will introduce you to a range of GenAI tools that enable you to harness the power of these LLMs via a graphical user interface (GUI), including NotebookLM, AI Studio, LearnLM, and the better known chatbots such as Claude, Copilot, and ChatGPT. The workshop includes an interactive hands-on workshop to develop and practice effective prompts for you to get the most out of diverse GenAI tools.
