Bio
Dr. Maya Livio is assistant professor of climate, environmental justice, media and communication and an associate director of the center for environmental filmmaking. Her work probes at the contact zones between ecosystems and digital systems through the lens of justice. Livio's work draws from environmental media studies, feminist science and technology studies, and media arts.

Livio's work has been supported supported by major funding organizations such as the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts and featured in venues such as as The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, and NPR. Her work has also been exhibited internationally and published in volumes by Amherst College Press, punctum books, and the Institute of Network Cultures, among others. She is an affiliate of the Low-Carbon Research Methods Group and the Digital Methods Initiative.

Currently, Livio is working on "Salvaging Birds," a multimodal project that examines the rising use of AI for biodiversity loss. For this work, she was awarded a 2023 Residency at Caltech and the Huntington Library. She was also awarded 小蓝视频's 2023 Research and Innovation Award at Airlie for related research on tech for conservation. Other ongoing projects include a book on environmental reproducibility as well as a group of works on camera trapping in Los Angeles.
