Judge Shaw is an Associate Judge for the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.聽 Elevated in June of 2016, this year marks Judge Shaw鈥檚 26th year serving in the judiciary.聽 She was initially appointed to the District Court for Prince George鈥檚 County and later elevated to the Circuit Court.聽 While in the Circuit Court, she handled both jury and non-jury civil, family, and criminal trials and served as the County鈥檚 Juvenile Judge and as the County鈥檚 Criminal Coordinating Judge.
During her tenure, Judge Shaw has worked on many court related projects designed to improve the administration of justice and to educate the community about the judiciary.聽 She implemented the County鈥檚 first Juvenile Drug Court and Re-Entry Court programs and piloted the Court鈥檚 Treatment for Mothers of Addicted Newborns (TMAN) docket. She co-chaired a taskforce examining the Circuit Court鈥檚 Accessibility to the Latino Community, has served on the Maryland Judiciary鈥檚 Public Awareness Committee, the Public Trust and Confidence Committee, Education Committee, the Judiciary鈥檚 Mediation and Conflict Resolution Board as well as Maryland鈥檚 Juvenile Justice Advisory Council. She currently serves on the Judiciary鈥檚 Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, the Problem-Solving Court鈥檚 Subcommittee and the Maryland State Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy.
Prior to her appointment, Judge Shaw was a career prosecutor, having ended her career as Chief of the Homicide and Narcotics Division of the State鈥檚 Attorney鈥檚 Office in Prince George鈥檚 County, Maryland.
