Nigeria Data Protection Commission

On June 21st 2024, the Head of Legal, Enforcement and Regulations (HLER), Babatunde Bamigboye, Esq. of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and an International Fellow of the United States Federal Trade Commission, the Head of Legal, Enforcement, and Regulations (HLER) at the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Babatunde Bamigboye, Esq., who also holds the title of International Fellow of the United States Federal Trade Commission, recently made an impactful visit to the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. This visit was part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering information sharing and enhancing global networking opportunities. In a series of in-depth discussions with the Center's Director, Prof. Eduardo Bertoni, the focus was on identifying and implementing measures to improve the enforcement of data protection regulations.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening the enforcement powers of data protection authorities to ensure they can effectively uphold and protect the rights of persons. A prominent focus of their discussion was the critical need of preserving personal data as a vital component of the right to privacy.

Bamigboye and Bertoni emphasized the critical necessity for strong, comprehensive legal frameworks that can adapt to the quickly changing digital landscape. They agreed that such safeguards are critical to maintaining public trust and protecting individual liberties in an era where data breaches and privacy abuses are becoming more widespread.
