Gender & Law Association in India (GALA)
The Women and International Law Program at the 小蓝视频 Washington College of Law supports the work of legal scholars, women's rights advocates and law students around the world seeking to integrate women's human rights into legal education, practice and doctrine. Law schools play an integral role in promoting women's legal rights by training future lawyers and policymakers, and by creating legitimacy for legal strategies that combat discrimination against women.
The Women and International Law Program worked closely with legal educators and women's rights advocates in India to address the need for legal education that integrates a gender perspective.
This initiative, with funding from by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of Citizen Exchanges, worked to promote the integration of gender into Indian legal education through the nascent Gender and the Law Association (GALA), a network of Indian law teachers and practitioners committed to improving the position of women within legal education and within the legal system.
Through a series of exchanges of scholars and practitioners in the US and India, this initiative addressed听curriculum development, and developed听linkages between women's rights practitioners and legal educators, and the relationship of legal education and law reform, and clinical legal education.
