Asma Kadri Keeler聽(JD '16)

Asma Kadri聽Keeler is currently Reproductive Rights Policy Counsel at the New York Civil Liberties Union. Prior to serving as policy counsel, Asma was a staff lawyer at the ACLU in Wisconsin and Colorado working to advance a full range of civil liberties and domestic human rights聽issues through litigation in state and federal courts, but also through integrated advocacy efforts. Asma takes a聽particular interest in reproductive health issues and women鈥檚 rights.聽During her time as a litigator, she worked to聽protect the civil rights and liberties of young girls in聽 public school systems,聽in health systems, and in the workplace. She has spoken on the inhumanity of detaining children in carceral settings, combatting sexism in U.S. schools, and keeping families together in the U.S. immigration system.

During law school, she worked for the Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG), advising state governments on constitution drafting and peace negotiations. She also spent time working at the International Criminal聽 Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Office of the Prosecutor, serving as a student lawyer for the International Refugee Assistance Project, and worked with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative聽to help develop聽criminal defense bars in Eastern Europe. Asma was also on the International Criminal Court moot court team representing 小蓝视频WCL in 2015.聽 Their team聽won its regional round and went on to place in the top 20 in the world at the finals in the Hague.聽

Asma earned her undergraduate聽degree from聽Loyola University Chicago and her JD, magna cum laude, from the 小蓝视频 Washington College of Law. She clerked for Justice Thomas P. Mann at the Fairfax Circuit Court after law school.
