Hosted Competitions

Capitol City Challenge This mock trial competition alternates between a civil and criminal case problem and scores teams on their advocacy skills. Following the preliminary rounds, we will announce octo-finalists advancing to the quarterfinal round.

Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition The Advocacy Program is proud to collaborate with the International Law Students Association (ILSA) to host the Mid-Atlantic Regional Qualifying Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Hosted at WCL since 2019, schools from around the region come to participate in the simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice.

National Trial Competition The Advocacy Program is proud to collaborate with the Texas Young Lawyers Association to host a regional competition for the National Trial Competition. Each year, the top two teams from this elite mock trial competition advance to the National rounds.

Wechsler Moot Court Competition The Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Competition is a nationally-renowned tournament that consistently attracts top competitors from across the country.

Student Awards

Mooers Trophy This prestigious award is given to student(s) who have displayed their commitment to trial advocacy, as illustrated by their coursework, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles.

Morella Award This award is given to the student(s) who have exhibited commitment to the Advocacy Program, involvement in the community, dedication to mentoring others, and overall professionalism while a student at WCL.

Newman Prize This prize is given to the student who exhibited a significant commitment to criminal law and excellence in a criminal trial advocacy course.

Barristers Award The Order of the Barristers award serves to recognize, on a national basis, graduating law students who have excelled in moot court and mock trial activities.
